Tackling Indigenous Smoking: Puyu Wiya

The SAWCAN Puyu Wiya team is part of the National Tackling Indigenous Smoking program. Our three priority groups are pregnant women, people in remote areas and young people.
Puyu Wiya uses community-led health promotion activities, locally-tailored social marketing campaigns, and support services designed to help individuals make behavioural changes in relation to nicotine. These changes include making a quit attempt, not smoking while pregnant and keeping homes and cars a nicotine-free zone.
The program is a critical part of our public health strategy to improve the wellbeing of community and address health inequities. It is funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care.
