Culture Care Connect

The Culture Care Connect program integrates suicide prevention and holistic aftercare for community. It is designed to reduce the stigma of suicide and mental health issues by promoting the importance of social and emotional wellbeing among Aboriginal people.
Key aspects of the program include:
- Tailored suicide prevention planning and activities at a local level which emphasise cultural sensitivity and community involvement in both planning and implementation.
- Holistic aftercare services that are integrated with community values, fostering community empowerment and self-determination in line with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
- Providing support to our ACCHOs’ workforces to enhance local capability and capacity for suicide prevention and mental health support.
- Using trauma-aware and healing-informed approaches, providing support that is informed by an understanding of the historical and ongoing impacts of colonisation on mental health.
- Providing mechanisms for ongoing evaluation to adapt and improve the services provided, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of community.
This initiative is coordinated by the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO) in partnership with the Australian Government’s Department of Health and Aged Care.
