Participants and ACCHOs are primary owners of the data they collect, which aligns with the principles of Aboriginal self-determination and control. Ownership delegation is the responsibility of individuals sitting on a Data Access Committee (DAC). This committee assesses the benefit of partnering with the researcher (and Institution) to their community. Example: Participants & ACCHOs

In data governance, a data custodian is a person responsible for the safe storage, security, and maintenance of data assets • Example: Institution (where the researcher works) that is responsible for data storage and maintenance, e.g. University of Adelaide

They are responsible for the day-to-day management of data, ensuring its accuracy, completeness, and accessibility within the research team. The Steward is a proxy for the Data owner in the absence of the owner being able to make decisions about the data day-to-day and are therefore responsible for ensuring that all relevant data governance requirements have been met • Example: SAWCAN on behalf of the ACCHOs and Lead researcher & team members that come under the responsibility of the Data Custodian e.g. Employees or students of the University of Adelaide.

Include how Aboriginal governance is involved in decision-making (e.g. Aboriginal advisory group, steering committee), how communities retain control over data use and outputs, and how participating communities, organisations, or data custodians will be acknowledged or involved in project outputs where appropriate.
